Meet Bill-

A Chinese international exchange student who just so happened to be my neighbor in the dorms.  Passing him in the hall one day I excitedly blurted out, “Hey! You  should come to New Orleans with us.”  A week later he had signed up and was beginning to fundraise.  Through out the week he grappled with questions concerning his faith.  Upon returning to UMF he received an E-mail from a former teacher who wrote to him “God has blessed you tremendously.”  Coming from a community of communism in China, this message was unexpected and out of the ordinary.  It was at this moment that it clicked for Bill, that Jesus was calling him into a relationship.  He knocked on my door a few minutes later, with a smile so big I thought he won the jack pot-only to find out He so totally did!  It was then that he fully committed his life to Jesus and was excited to continue amongst a group of fellow Christian peers.

Unforeseen Joy

April 18th               I love awakening in this community. Everything about it makes my heart swell with joy, but at the same time there is a deep aching feeling from within.  The dogs bark, the rooster crows and people begin there day.  By 5 am the first bus has left to the city.  The people here for the most part are slow wakers.  It’s as though the city is a little radio that starts on low, and by the afternoon with the hustle and bustle of everything has been turned on high.               This morning was extremely slow, the men had set out on a work project up in the Mangos.  Alyssa showed me the footage she had shot so far, and I learned a lot in the few minutes her and I were talking about it. God has blessed her with such a talent and it’s sweet that she is fulfilling it with His will.  So often people waste there God given talents, but a special notion...

One Purple House

One Purple House. A history like no other.  Ready for transformation. Declarations of the highest. One group of 20' somethings,  excited for the journey this entails.  Numerous hearts ready to be restored.  Through Jesus hearts will be saved.  Through Jesus,  testimonies will be made.  Have your will, Jesus.  One Purple House.  What wonders of the Word. Through Jesus.  What Disciples will be made.  A step closer to revelation.  God we lift this up in your name.  The opportunities that have risen, we thank you for them.  Every day we are reminded that there is great power in the name of Jesus.  Great power in your LOVE, and GRACE. Grant us the ears to hear, the eyes to see and the faith to be abiding to your word.  Whatever this purple house may become, we pray that it becomes a light onto the word.  A safe place.  We pray in...

The Power of a Smile

Stop correcting "i"The smell of burnt coffee beans fills the air. I can hear buzzes of cellphones, murmurs of friends talking in line- and the occasional whoosh of the expresso machine. As I look out the small coffee shop window I see a diverse city, a puzzle of God's wonderful creation. This week I have had the opportunity to connect with many people, all in different part of their life.  Conversations have ranged from embarrassing subway stories, to struggles within the health care system, to future hopes and dreams.  I answered the question, 'Where is Maine?" so many times this week I can not keep count.  We are currently partnering with the Salvation Army in Harlem, New York. During the day we help at a food kitchen- mainly creating relationships with the community; loving them and praying for them.  In the afternoons I help in a classroom of 1st graders, their teacher being another young college student. She is currently in school to be a lawyer...
